Where tradition meets practical training.
Try a class @fsma.schoolI started training kung fu and taiji in 2019, and since then both have become part of my daily life. I don’t see them as just training — they’ve shaped my everyday life in many ways. My balance improved, my confidence grew, I learned how to defend myself, and daily meditation brought a sense of calm that feels increasingly important in today’s fast-paced world. That may be one of the most valuable parts of all.
This isn’t only inner work, though. The body needs to be trained consistently too — otherwise it loses its strength and sharpness, like a blade left unused. For me, Flow State Martial Arts brings these two sides together: real physical training and inner focus — both part of the same path.
A Chinese kung fu style rooted in explosive, close-range power — short bursts of force delivered through elbows, shoulders, and hips. The name translates roughly as "eight extremities fist." For centuries it was the style of choice for Chinese imperial bodyguards. An Jian Qiu — with whom I trained in Dezhou — is a 5th-generation inheritor of the An family Bajiquan lineage, a national champion, and one of the most respected traditional practitioners of this style alive today.
The training combines traditional Shaolin fundamentals with Bajiquan basics. Sessions begin with mobility, stretching, and stance work — from there we build structure, conditioning, and form practice.
Meditation is woven into the fundamentals to develop focus and breathing control. The goal is building a real, transferable skill — not performance.

Core Bajiquan drills, structure, and form.
Strength, endurance, physical preparation.
Baji basics and form practice begin. Daily repetition and structural drills from scratch.
More intense fitness and physical conditioning. Building the base to hold technique.
